John Cow Hacks His Own Site

It the true sneaky nature of the Cow, John Cow hacked himself for a little publicity, and it worked!

John Cow Hacked

In a post today on Turk Hit Box, I learned that the John Chow wannabe/parody site, JohnCow.com was apparently hacked. Of course, the post included speculation that it could be a ploy by John Cow to drum up some more publicity for his site, which I think is painfully obvious.

John Cow Ransom PayPal

The “hackers” posted the first image up there and included a PayPal button to ease the process of paying to “free the cow”. Payment is made to a johncow.com email address, of course. John’s not in it alone, though. It appears to me that Everybodygoto.com is an accomplice. Click and read to see what I’m talking about. Other blogs all over the internet are linking in droves while covering the “hack”.

If you want to learn about serious link baiting, watch the Cow. He’s got it down to a science.

I agree this is a great link baiting strategy. The Cow really did a good job with this one.

Brilliant idea. We’re all watching now to see when the site will be “released”….it’s a great idea, as long as it doesn’t last too long.

I wasn’t going to write about it but I was drawing a blank yesterday. So I figured I would give the guy some love. I enjoy his blog anyway. I gotta give credit where credit is due. Looking at the guy’s stats right out of the gate, he really hit the ground running.

I even emailed John Chow and asked why he put up with that in the early days when it was a direct copy. He replied back saying that he was getting a ton of traffic from him and so it was tolerable. I think they have a pretty good relationship now. Who knows they may even be the same person.

Chow did say several months ago that he was going to start a blog anonymously and see if he could replicate the results of his own blog.

Roberta: Right you are. If he draws it out much longer, it starts creeping into “bad idea” territory.

Andy: Yesterday, I thought about the possibility that Chow==Cow, but I then got distracted by something shiny and forgot all about it. I’ll investigate, but I’m sure if Chow is also Cow, Chow is smart enough to cover his tracks. I don’t really think they’re the same, but it’s definitely possible.

“…got distracted by something shiny…” Seriously, I must have laughed about that for 20 minutes.
